may in rewind 2013

may

Even though I couldn’t go to BEA *sobsnifflecry*, May had some of my BEST BEST BEST moments of 2013!! It’s only my first month back at blogging and already, I can feel that bookish passion in the blogosphere. With exams over and holidays around the corner…

What can I say? ;)

MAY IN ONE PICTURE

I’m sorry, I just had to. This was taken on the day of Audition Round for National Science Challenge 2013, thank you Gwyneth for the yummylicious muffins!! <3

MAY IN ONE WORD

SUGAR-HIGH

5 THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN MAY

1. National Science Challenge!! Seriously, I can’t remember anything else that happened because this competition bonded me with the silliest, smartest, funniest, derpiest team ever.

2. I made my own brookies! They’re like a cross between brownies and cookies, and they’re my new pastry fave (Y)

3. Played Monopoly with my neighbours till past midnight and went to watch The Great Gatsby. You’ll see that the movie is influencing my Popular On My Earphones list!

4. Just last week, I picked up a one-week crash course for Balinese Gamelan, a super noisy Malay percussion, and I found it to be really fun!! (Picture on the right) I took up sign language as well, and now I’m just annoying my parents every day by replying them in hand signs.

5. MY VERY FIRST STARBUCKS. Yeah okay I’m just deprived that way haha it was their latest Red Bean + Green Tea Frappuccino if I’m not wrong. It’s slightly on the expensive side but it tasted great and I’m now a Starbucks fan. WHOOP.

POPULAR ON MY EARPHONES

Over The Love by Florence + The Machine
“Now, there’s green light in my eyes, and my lover on my mind, and I sing from the piano, tear my yellow dress and cry and cry and cry…”

Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey
“Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and beautiful?”

好朋友只是朋友 by 郁可唯

MOST POPULAR 3 BLOG POSTS OVERALL THIS MONTH

1. Top Ten Books Dealing With Tough Subjects— I thought mine was the weirdest list of books, but you guys could relate so well :)

2. Blog Tour Character Interview: Maid of Secrets by Jennifer McGowan— Sophie is such a sweet character, and I was practically jumping around with ecstasy when her psychic powers detect a SECOND BOOK in the Maid of Honour series!!

3. Blog Tour Review: The Rules for Disappearing by Ashley Elston— Having conflicted feelings about this one.

FAVOURITE QUOTE FROM A BOOK I READ IN MAY

Luckily, I always travel with a book, just in case I have to wait on line for Santa, or some such inconvenience.

  1. Sounds like you had a fab time in May. So happy for you, Alicia! I especially love the idea of cookies+brownies – hopefully I can find the right recipe and have a taste of it too :)

  2. Ah!! So I’m SO HAPPY you had amazing things going on in May! My May was quite busy so I feel like I’ve only gotten through a few review copies, and they were wonderful, but I was still a little bummed. The Great Gatsby!! I would have loved catch one but urghh I didn’t and if I’m not wrong the 2 songs on your list are from The Great Gatsby soundtrack? I like them!!

Hope you’ll have an even better time in June!

    • May was a busy mess for me too and I’m still lagging behind in review copies that were due for review 4 months ago :/ Despite so, I took myself away from the blog a little in May, to enjoy other things in my life (aka watching The Great Gatsby haha) Yup, they’re from The Great Gatsby soundtrack. AHHH-MAZING!! <3

  3. Hey Alicia! Thanks for stopping by my blog ;)
I totally agree with your Top Ten Dealing with Tough Subjects! It’s definitely what I’ll agree with, especially Speechless and Saving June! And brookies! What a quirky name :D I love brownies and cookies, so I really wish I could try your brookies!
And your first Starbucks is always a thrill! Mine was the Chocolate Frappuccino and I got HOOKED. But I’m broke so grrrr….
And don’t worry, here’s another Singaporean who can’t go to the BEA :(

    • Thank you, Emily! Just google “brookie recipe” and there are tons which you could try, they taste DELICIOUS <3 I'm loving Starbucks now and there's one near my home so… reallyyyyy tempted to run out and get it every few minutes!! Haha but too much coffee is bad and I'm sure I read somewhere that coffee gives you yellowed teeth.

EEESH!! Hopefully we'll be able to make it for BEA some day… All of us international peeps :/

      • Okay! I’ll try it this holidays :) Eek! I don’t want yellowed teeth either :O
Maybe when we are older than we can fly out to the BEA ourselves :D Or purposely study in New York for University then we can go… ;)

      • Haha yes!! We’ll team up as the Singaporean Minions and (maybe not so) sneakily sign up for a university in New York so we’ll be able to make it for BEA!!

THAT’S IT. I’M PUTTING THAT AS A LIFE GOAL!! *pumps fist*

    • I saw lots of glowing reviews for Dash and Lily’s, and it was up on Netgalley a while ago so naturally I just hit the “Request” button and began reading the next possible moment. Liked it!! Enjoy your June too :)

  4. Oh hi five! Another deprived Starbucks soul here. Anyways, brookies do taste awesome. I’m so glad u went to watch The Great Gatsby. I think it’s one of my Top Movies 2013. Do look out for Catching Fire!

    • Just swang by Starbucks for their Green Tea Latte yesterday, loving it<3 I've found a number of recipes online but none of them tastes as great as the one by A Baked Creation, maybe you can give it a go too!! The Great Gatsby wasn't an exceptional movie for me but the darkness in the story caught me and it’s still very very depressing!!

OH YES CATCHING FIRE!!! I NEED THAT ONE.

  5. Oh my goodness those cupcakes! I seriously want cupcakes now!! Speaking of desserts, brookies sound like an amazing thing. I totally need to try that sometime.

Also… first Starbucks?!? I am so glad you’ve experienced the greatness that is Starbucks. =)

    • I’m now -slightly- obsessed with making cookies, brookies, cupcakes, muffins… It’s so convenient if you can whip up some pastries and have those warm yummy things at home instead of having to run out to buy them ^~^

Haha I KNOW RIGHT I’m sometimes deprived of great things in life (aka Starbucks). Making up for them now, and thank you for stopping by, Wendy!

  6. Don’t worry! I didn’t go BEA either *sob, sob*. Merr, those muffins are making me hungry! DX You had such an amazing time in May! The Great Gatsby! * ^ * I want to watch it already. The soundtrack, just, OH. MY. GOSH. And you read Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares. *bows down* Thank you, thank you, thank you. I LOVE THAT BOOK! Fangirl with me sometime cause that quote just made me laugh because of that incident with Lily’s Uncle and yeah…Santas a pervert. XD

You, my friend, are awesome. Now, I am going to follow you.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! <3

    • Oops, just did a Google search and learnt that they are from Twelve Cupcakes– must be cupcakes then! I’ve got a MAJOR sweet tooth and I really loves these little things :P THE GREAT GATSBY!! Florence and Lana Del Rey capture the moods of the story SO WELL. Haha, Dash and Lily are such a cute couple and URGHH SANTA!! *SCARRED FOR LIFE*

Love your blog too Delaney, it’s really cute!!

  7. I LOVE all your choices! Monopoly is very addictive so I completely agree with your choice to play until after midnight. Now I’m sitting here wondering when I last finished a monopoly game.. Hmm.. Have a great June!

    • Oh you’ll love to play monopoly with me– I’M ALWAYS GOING BANKRUPT!! EEESH!! xD We never finish monopoly games (honestly, this game has no end), but by 1AM+ in the morning our bodies were stiff from sitting at the same position for 5 hours so we quit it before our backs REALLY cramped up haha! Have a great June too, Rita :)

  8. Wow, what a great month! I don’t know what to comment first because everything was awesome. I can not wait to see The Great Gatsby. I still haven’t but oh boy, everyone says it’s amazing. And I’m also planning on reading Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares very soon. It looks like such a good summer book! :D

    • The Great Gatsby movie wasn’t the “movie of my dreams” for me, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere created! Dash and Lily’s is SO ADORABLE, you have to read it!!

Have a great month in June :)
